Under normal circumstances, the Butterfly Hug and the 4 Elements techniques are taught face to face by EMDR therapists as part of, or alongside, a comprehensive treatment plan. They are not intended as trauma therapy but as psychological second aid. They will help stabilise you to prevent these acute stress experiences accumulating and possibly becoming traumatic memories. They are used to process current ongoing distress and do NOT replace therapy or to deal with past issues.
